Brake Pedal Feel

I've been a big fan of this site since I first had my '85 5000, continued with my '92 100, and even now with my '05 A6. The issue I have with this car is the brake pedal never felt firm enough. When the car is not running the pedal is rock hard. Once the car is started the pedal sinks - as it should with the vacuum boost assist - but it seems like it should be firmer..

This past weekend I did a fluid change with a pressure bleeder. After that the pedal felt the same. I then did a 2 man bleed. A ton of air came out of the left rear and right front....so much so that at one point during the left rear bleed, the pedal went to the floor without opening the bleeder. It took 3 or 4 pumps of the pedal while adding fluid to the master cylinder to get the pedal firmness back. After the bleed was complete the pedal firmness with the car running did not change.

The Bently lists the sequence for a pressure flush as RR, LR, RF, LF but lists the sequence for bleeding the brakes as the opposite. I followed the first sequence for both the pressure flush and the 2 man bleed.

Thanks for any help -
