Not always positive. I've had a number of their racks go bad. But on the
flip side, this last one has lasted years longer than the one before, and I
was told that they had done some serious research to find the cause of the
failures, and had addressed the root cause. Apparently with the racks used
on the 5000, they used a teflon seal. Seems like a good idea, but
apparently it requires a much more consistent finish on the hydraulic
piston, which ordinary seals don't require. They apparently invested in
some new diamond honing or polishing equipment to be able to produce the
finish required to make the teflon seals live, and they assured me that
this last rack would be a good one. So far so good.
So they get good marks from me for realizing they had a problem, figuring
out why and (probably) fixing it. They also cheerfully honored the warranty
each time with no guff. Changing a rack 3 times on a 5000 turbo quattro is
still a big pain.
Other than the original manufacturer, ZF, there probably isn't any better
option out there. A ZF rebuild will cost some serious $$$.
