Timing belt change - marks on flywheel and on vibration damper not aligning

Well, the timing belt sprocket has a pretty massive key (which is part
of the casting) that slides into a groove on the camshaft. The
sprocket can go in one way only. The vibration damper, on the other
hand, has no key and attaches to the flat surface of the sprocket with
four Allen-head bolts. It has a small recess at one spot that fits
over a small bump on the flat surface of the sprocket. The damper
also goes in one way only. And yet, there's misalignment. I must be
missing something.
Radek.

This is exactly what came to mind. The keyway on the timing belt sprocket
that sits behind the damper pulley. BTST plenty of times.

The key on the pulley could be sheared off, or starting to. It would be a
pretty good idea to pull it off and check.
