4000 Quattro stuck in neutral w/ stiff clutch pedal

Sounds like you might have two seperate issues. The first thing you need to
look at is the firewall where the clutch master cylinder mounts. They tear
after flexing a good bit. This allows the master cylinder to move as you
push the pedal, adn eventually it bends outward, not fully returning the
pedal in the process. Also, if it hasnt' been bled/flushed in a while, it
may be time to do that as well.

Let us know what you find.
