2006 2.0TFSI Passat Cat Failure

bill - dont know how much help i can be other than BTDT on my b5a4. it's a
very common failure point on the 1.8t's, the cat body has 2 pieces and a
slip joint where they're fit together. such a stupid design.. i imagine
yours is similar. mine failed once, symptoms exactly as you describe. car
sounded like a helicopter and had no horsepowers. indy wrench got it back
together and welded it in a few spots for a couple 100$.

part refailed about a year later and i put on a high flow which was on the
car for about 5 years w/ no issues and passed smog every time [labree].
