Can 20 year compressor overheat the 20V?

This made me laugh Huw!! Until this year, I've not had working AC either.
An old York compressor takes 17hp to run, IIRC. We ran a 4kq years ago on a
dyno, but I'm just going from memory. That was nearly 20 years ago. A 90
rotary compressor (more modern technology) is about 13hp. My employee's
1.8T A4 definately sees a differece when the compressor cycles. In my 200hp
A6, not so much of a differece.
In my 89 100 there is a huge differece. So, it all seems to come down to
perception. If an average compressor pulls 15hp, that is a much larger
percentage of sy, the 52 hp my diesel Jetta makes, than the 450 hp an RS6
makes. So, it's much more noticable.
Though a 5000TQ makes 160hp, how much is a making when the driving down the
highway? I doubt it would be as noticable if you turned it on at 3000RPM
floored, as the engine is making max power and boost, compared to running
down the road off boost.
