How can anyone possibly buy a used Audi quattro anymore?

No question in my mind that the Mk 5's were the best, by far. Find one to
drive and then drive a new one. There's a reason the prices are staying so
high on them. The good Doctor himself said that the Mk 5 Jetta just might
be the best car they had ever made.

I didn't find them any worse in quality or handling than my mk 3 or mk4.

Please don't.
The new Jetta's suck. Period. The Mk 5's are wonderful cars. These new
ones are crap, put together for the American masses. We were handed one as
a longer term loaner while VW worked to resolve the AdBlue system on our
Touareg TDI. Ann drove it daily; I only for a few trips. What garbage.
The handling dynamics sucked, the braking sucked, the finish inside was two
steps down from the Mk 5's. When my less than into cars wife states, "one
of these will NEVER be in our driveway!"...well, even she could tell how far
the Jetta has fallen. We had a Mk 5 GTI that was fantastic...I just wanted
quattro and picked up another A4q. I've driven plenty of Mk 5 Jetta's and
they are wonderful, all of them; TDI, 2.5 and GLI...maybe the 2.0t non GLI
is a little schizo, but still nice. My only regret with the GTI is that IF
I had got a GLI, I probably would have kept it and given it to my son.
Instead, he got a high mileage, but nice '04 A4q USP, so I'm good with that.
Just stay away from the new Jetta's. Even the service tech at our dealer
can't believe what they have become, but as she says, "They're eselling like
hotcakes.".
Ughh....
My two cents...
Steve

Yeah, I am probably going to break my own advice and get a Mk6 Jetta -
although by the time I get off my butt and get my car spruced up to sell,
the 2013's will be here....
The mid-range SE with Convenience and Sunroof is very reasonably priced at
$21,450 with the 5-speed trans, although the thought of rear drum brakes
kinda turns me off. But I don't think the interior is as bad as a .lot of
the media have been saying.

Well that explains why my early 2000 Jetta had less issues than some people
I know that had later mk4s. I've heard of precious few issues with the mk6
too.
