NG engine knock

Just put a new NG engine into my 4kq. Using the starter to turn it over
resulted in a knock noise very much like a big end rod bearing was shot on
one or more of the cylinders. I took all the plugs out then reinstalled a
single plug in the cylinders one at a time turning the engine over each
time. I thought that would show me which cylinder was making the noise. But
they each sounded completely normal when I did this! Then I discovered that
putting any two plugs in resulted in the knock noise returning! This is 10-1
compression engine could that noise be normal? I'm afraid to try and start
this engine until I get past this problem. By the way rotating the crank
through a complete cycle with the plugs out is very smooth with nothing
striking anything. Any thoughts??? I don't want to re-pull this engine if I
don't have to! J
