VAG-COM.  First, pull codes.  If that doesn't leave the answer, run the engine and monitor the sensors and fuel trim.  The it'll just be a matter of checking the wiring and likely replacing the sensor(s).  Depending on car history, there is likely more than one "lazy" sensor in the system, making it much more susceptible to poor running conditions.
