I disagree, there is another aspect left out. These days the business is more competitive every day and labor rates just barely keep the lights on. Quality technicians must be paid a fair portion of the labor rates in order to keep them happy then good ole uncle Sam takes even more of that portion. REASONABLE parts markup is typically the money that puts food on the table. Obviously there are exceptions, but most well run quality shops depend on making money on multiple fronts to survive.
