Check oxygen sensor first. Simplest test is to measure its output
voltage (the single wire at the bracket on the side of the head) at warm
idle, it should fluctuate fairly rapidly between about 0.2 and 0.7
volts. It can be removed and bench-tested with a voltmeter and propane
torch, too.

Check coolant temp sender on top of top radiator hose neck. Resistance
~1-2k ohms when cold (ice water/overnight cold engine), 100-250 or so
when hot (boiling water/hot engine). Exact specs or curve ought to be
in the Bentley, but they are hard to find.

Check 2-3 brown wires grounded to bolt on intake manifold (under fuel
injector lines).

A bad OXS - or malfunctioning CIS/OXS feedback loop - can easily cause
over-rich conditions.
