Hi, not sure of your situation but most ECMs are sensitive to grounding.
Bad grounds will make them act funny and even damage the drivers.
I think these cars have issues with the grounding lugs maybe on the intake?
Sorry, been a while since I owned an older Audi..
How does the wiring harness look?  The engine heat kills them.  Even if they
look ok can still be brittle and corroded inside.

I replaced my fuel injection computer with a used unit from Chris at Force
Five. Initially it corrected some of the issues I had been having but after
running for less than an hour all of the problems returned. Chris sent me
another unit as a warranty item but before I install it I'd like to
determine that there isn't something that is causing the computer to fail.
