Modern A/T's are pretty amazing things. Our 2007 Odyssey has a 5-speed auto that actually downshifts as you slow down (although no
rev-matching ;-). Actually threw me for a loop the first time I slowed down to turn into the driveway as it downshifted and the revs increased,
causing me to enter a little faster than I had planned!

I think the perceived torque that Mohammed refers to is the result of the 8-speed auto transmission.
I drove that box in a Chrysler 300 V6, a BMW X1 2.0t, in a Touareg diesel and numerous others German machines. Each time, I was amazed by its qualities : smooth and fast gearchanges, starts in 2nd normally but uses 1st if the throttle is floored, quick multiple downshifts, efficient on the highway, etc.
I won’t buy one, Honey and I are MT people, but it is a gem of transmission.

An 8-speed transmission? Wow, was not aware of that.
Returned the loaner and got back the A4. Definitely notice the lack of smoothness and NVH in the A4 as compared to the A6. They've done a good job on the A6. Will have to test drive a newer A4 to see how it matches up with an A6.
Thanks for the education and insights to all.
