Thermostat

Is that a European model? I thought US models were from 2000-2002.
Anyway, unfortunately I've done it 4-5 times on my 2001 S4 due to a leaky
thermostat and themo housing. Also, to get in there you have to get past
your timing belt, so it's the same job as that. Buy a full timing belt kit
from the likes of BlauParts and replace it all while you are in there if you
haven't done it in the last 50K. Official replacement interval is around
80-120K depending on who you ask. But it's all just a bunch of parts you
don't ever want to fail, so replace unless you've just had it done.
The first time I replaced my timing belt it took 27 hours total. Now I've
done it so many times it only takes me 90 minutes to get past the timing
belt and into the thermostat. Only a few more hours to replace it all.
For a great overview of what it's like, here is a time sped up video of what
you are getting yourself into:

He gets to the thermostat at 2:50 mins into the video. It should take you
MUCH longer! :-)
Let me know if you have any more questions. I've become somewhat of a
reluctant expert in this area. Also, just be glad it stuck in the open
position.
Enjoy!

Ladies & gents
the thermostat on my '99 B5 S4 seems to be jammed open (runs at 90 when
stationary & 60 when moving)
Any tips on changing it? Easy? Nightmare?
Cheers
