When I tried this, the film came of in two parts.

The film (mylar?) peeled of like packing tape - it was stuck on good,
but once you get a corner going and pull hard, it peels off. It'll take
a lot of attempts as the peelings taper to a point. If you get lucky,
you can pull off large pieces, but it is tough.  Warming the film with
a hair dryer helps soften the glue behind it, making this part easier.

The other part is the adhesive that holds the film to the glass.
There's probably a solvent for it, but I sold the car for parts before
I got it off.
