No ideas specific to that model, but sounds like a connection problem.
Maybe dirty ground? Maybe the wiring is just old and tired. A new heavy
gauge wire relayed to the pump might help.
Maybe the pump actually is dying and drawing excessive current.

The fuel pump fuse of my '91 CQ melts its insulation, esp if the car runs
hot.
The fuse doesn't pop until there's a close to complete melt down. Several
times, I've found the fuse melted in the fuse box but the car was running
fine.
I replace the fuse and everything runs fine again.
The contacts are mostly clean but I cleaned them anyway. I also put in gel
that will facilitate conduction. The problem is still recurring.
What're your thoughts?
