Tom,

German cars don't like to sit. Drive it once a month, at least.

There is a "7" shaped starter relay bypass in the fusebox IIRC. I haven't
worked on one with the older fusebox in a while. If it is there, check for
power while cranking. If none, the problem is between there and the ign
switch, if there is power there, the problem is between there and the
starter solonoid.

The fuel pump will not run till the engine is cranking over with the
ignition on. It is triggered by the hall sender's amplified signal on the
coil negative side. So, till the car is cranking, no fuel pump action
should be expected.
Let us know what you find.
