Clutch 1994 S4

When I pushed in the clutch this a.m. it popped and went to the floor where it stayed. I have checked the fluids and all seem OK, the car operated fine yesterday. I do not see any signs of leakage in the area around the clutch master cylinder. The only thing that is mentioned in the Bentley is the adjustment of the clevis on the master cylinder and it seems odd that it would be OK one day and out of adjustment the next. Any assistance with this issue will be greatly appreciated.
