Sorry to hear about the 'rocco!
The ignition is connected directly to the starter:
switch > red/black wire to fuse panel > red/black wire to T4 connector >
red wire to starter.
The red/black side of that connector goes to a few places - the cold
start thermo switch, the cold start valve (6th injector), the hot start
pulse relay, and the enrich relay.
The "starter relay" is built into the starter, like Chevy, not Ford.
For cranking current the starter is connected directly to the battery.
Thank you, the Bentley "current flow" charts do not appeal to me.
Too bad about the stabiliser, you might have a very gummed up CIS system
now.
How close to running was it on ether? Did you give it a nice big squirt?
It basically just caught for a second or two. "Big squirt"? as much as
seemed reasonable, I pulled the boot and sprayed the ether on the flow sensor
plate.
Do you have a stethoscope you can put on the fuel pump while cranking to
see if a buzzing can be detected?
Yes
One messy way to test fuel pump functioning is to open up the supply
line to the CIS and see if it sprays fuel all over your barn (aim it
into a jar)
At some point I id pull the supply line to see if there was pressure.
There was none, although I could see fuel in the distributor. I have a pressure
gauge, but not the adapter for use on CIS.
To save on the starter jumping for that test you could pull the fuel
pump relay and jumper the socket. If your car had the fpr recall done
the relay should be above the fuse panel towards the right end.
As soon as I have determined the "goodness" of the ignition switch, I will
try that for the fuel pump.
Good luck...
Tom
