That may be the easiest thing to try first.
A pro mech would probably scope the cam signal and compare to the crank sig
to see if timing jumped.
I've been reading a lot about Audi timing chain tensioner and guide issues
on IATN recently.
Hopefully that's not your issue.

Hi I have a 2006 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro which is throwing up a check engine
light.
Checked the code and got P0346 - 006 - Implausible signal.
838 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G163)
I'm hoping that I can fix the problem by simply replacing the camshaft
position sensor on the left cylinder head - looks like a few minutes work.
Or is there more to it than that?
