'91 100q 5 injectors replaced - now car wont start

+1 on the hydraulic lifters. I've done that myself. But it was during a head rebuild. If you let the oil leak out of the hydraulic lifters during a rebuild, you need to soak them in oil overnight to get them working properly. In my experience it's possible to get 1 or 2 of the valves to not work correctly. But unless you intentionally tried to remove the oil from them by squeezing it out, I highly doubt you would be able to get all 5 cylinders to not hold compression. 

Since you didn't go anywhere near the valves, this is not a realistic cause in this case.
