distributor cap while the engine is turning. "
If this was happening while you had the cap upside down for viewing, then I
would suggest that the cap needs to be replaced. The spark should not be
jumping from the center post (from the coil) to any of the spark plug posts
without conducting through the rotor. The cap should be insulating the
coil's 'spark' from any cylinder except the one pointed to by the rotor.
