Hi Christopher,
You could get that funny "empty" spinning sound on cranking if the timing belt failed and the camshaft is not rotating! (I take your engine is a non-interference engine.)
The timing belt still could be in one piece except the the teeth are missing at the crankshaft sprocket. (That is where it fails first.)
How old is your timing belt?
Crank the engine and ask someone to see if the timing belt is moving!
I am not sure what is the best thing to remove the broken pieces of the shroud from the intake passages. Vacuuming sounds good if there have no pieces fallen into the cylinders where the intake valve was open.
Mind you, those are plastic pieces, they probably would work they way out of the cylinder one way or another, if the engine starts...
Good luck, Peter

I just replaced 5 injectors on my 100q, cleaned what I can and plugged
everything back in.
The car now wont start. The fuel pump primes, the starter comes on but the
card does not make that typical, cycling, cranking sound. The starter sound is
now this constant spin instead of the rhythmic cranking one hears when the car
cranks normally. It doesn't seem like anything is firing.
Any thoughts on what I an missing?
Thanks.

My injector shrouds were in pieces and maybe some fell into where the
injectors insert. I doubt it, but it's conceivable.
So what should I do here? Take out upper half of the intake and the injectors
and try to vacuum out the pieces?
Thanks.
