V8 Ignition switch, mechanical portion

Are you talking the shift interlock?  When I did my '96 100 (A6
precursor), I could unhook the interlock, then had to put a drop
of nail polish remover (acetone) on the two set screws to dissolve
the red paint (seen at the bottom of the images below). Loosen the
two set screws, and the electrical part should pull out from the
keyed portion of the switch and the harness, too.

These images are looking at a mirror, so the switch is upside down
(and backwards?):

I'm assuming the V8 switch is similar.
