the fsi is a great engine. yes it has some issues. 40 mins to check
the $15 cam follower every 4th oil change, wonky pcv system issues too
but neither should be a deal breaker since you can get the cars very
cheap.  sn't the end of the world. carbon buildup is either "about to
end the universe as we know it" or "no big deal / totally overblown"
depending on who you ask and what day it is. i know a lot of people
that have put a lot of miles on them and they are powerful, efficient
and smooth.

however agreed that the later tsi is a better choice as it's chain
driven, much more robust and more powerful. fixed the HPFP issues the
first gen had. 09+ mkv gti, 09+ b8a4, 10+ a3 got some version of it
[afaik]. at least until cam chains / guides / etc start failing. yuck.
ask the b6s4 guys ow much fun that's been..
