V8 troubles

I got a li'l story, too.
A few years ago bought a '92 Eurovan (black) for parts ... before buying
the other '92 Eurovan (white) last fall that the parts are meant for.
Black's PO said on the phone auto tranny had no D, later said engine
stopped running, wanted $1000. This was 240 kms from here, so when I was
there on business I checked it out - sure, cranks but no start.
Picked it up with a friend, his truck and trailer almost a year later for
$300 (PO needed time to decide).
At home the gauge showed empty, poured gas in, started, engine still runs,
tranny still loses D, when warm.
Fixed the fuel gauge via soldering a Voltage stabilizer on IC. Fuel pump
stopped working from sitting in the dry tank too long. Pulled it out, ran
with battery, installed in tank, pump still pumps but messed up the fuel
gauge sender's arm and fuel gauge doesn't work again.
