How to get the sunroof to open?

Hello all;

The sunroof on my son's new UrS6 is acting up:  it's the type with a rotary knob, left to slide, right to pop up.  No matter which way, all it does is pop up and then close.  We need to open it up to clean the drain pipes - water was dripping from the headliner after the rain this morning.  Any tricks?  Is there a basic setting on those cars that can be controlled via Vag-Com?
