Been experiencing the same thing with a speedo rebuilt by Palo Alto
Speedometer a few months ago. In my case, it may come off the peg
after a few blocks, a mile, or several miles. If I park the car for
even a short time, the speedo takes a while to come to life again. My
mechanic suggests replacing the cable, which I'm willing to try. I've
been in touch with PA Speedometer, and they say they'll fix it under
warranty if need be. I had originally sent it to them because it
didn't register at all, and I remember the price being much less than
$200.
