Spent some time in the Merchant Marine as a kid, I can assure  you the gas 
all comes form the same source. Not sure when the additives, or  dye, are 
added. Home heating oil has, or has not, a dye. That enables a LEO to  see if 
the road tax has been paid and prevent home heating oil from being used  for 
over the road trucks. Plenty of small contractors run their diesels on  
home heating oil. When I was really a kid, one gas company, or another,  
advertised their gas as "white", therefore more highly refined. I guess they  
didn't add a dye.
