Rant: why do the Audi gods suddenly have it in for me?

Well, at the risk of offending list members, I really think these older
Audis are becoming not viable for daily duty.
I see them more as novelties or toys to tinker with.  
You have to be a fairly decent technician to keep them running and sniff out
problems before they manifest into flatbed situations.  Being well versed in
electrical diagnosis sure doesn't hurt either.

I hate to discourage anyone from driving and loving an old Audi, but
sometimes there are better choices.
