I understand the distinction you are making about DSG transmissions. Modern
paddle-shifting DSGs are certainly good - as you say on a properly driven
track car they are faster than a manual - but for driving involvement and
fun nothing touches a true manual gearbox for me.

I expect we'll soon be down to a few enthusiast cars with manual
transmissions; for everything else the future is CVTs (and after that,
electric motors), lane monitors, autonomous steering, etc etc.
