What he said.

If you've touched manual transmission/differential (sometimes called gear
lube at flaps), it's quite a bit thicker than ATF. No way ATF will properly
lubricate a manual tranny and wonder how it'll stop any leaks.

The "Tranny stop leak" or some such products could be used for
experimentation but their effect is questionable. Swapping in new seals is
the answer and GL4 manual tranny fluid - Redline is good.

A "Steering stop leak" from Lucas (which cost as much as green gold -
Pentosin) didn't work for my steering rack. Other cheaper versions also
didn't work. Swapping the steering rack with a junkyard unit worked and
Amsoil Synth steering fluid got mixed with Pentosin with no ill effects -
price is similar for both.

How much ATF went in and how long have the transmissions been driven with?
Why wouldn't one use thicker manual tranny fluid instead of much thinner
ATF?
