Hi,
My Dad, Paul Cole, has an 01 A6 4.2L that was Derracuda on MGs. It is
6-speed converted and has 278k on it. Engine is easier to work on then the
2.7T which is just as packed in there. Timing belts are about the same, you
can use the same transmission. Flywheel is same and clutch to match is
fine. It'll fit fine, but the V8 A6s have more flare then a 2.7T.
Biggest things you'll need is the ECU tuned to shutoff the Automatic
transmission controls. My dad's still isn't, but we are already looking for
an S8 engine for it. The 4.2L do have some issues, but those are minor. No
turbos to fail, no intercoolers to drain, and no piping to leak.
Hope that helps,
Sean
