'91 CQ ran out of fuel, gauge at 1/4, no autocheck or E

I have a '91 CQ with fuel gauge, autocheck and trip computer that have always worked well in warning me of low fuel. 

Yesterday, the Coupe ran out of fuel. The gauge was at 1/4, the "distance to empty" on trip computer was at 70 miles. The autocheck low fuel yellow light came on as the car was stalling.

Any thoughts?
