The cost of a lease is (in part) dependent on the value a car has post
lease to others.  If the cost of maintenance beyond the first few years
continues to skyrocket the value of used cars drop, then the lease costs
jump as a result :-)

I'd support an "open source" approach being required on all cars.  Say
something like unlocking "DRM" after 5 years post sale.  Can't see the
manufacturers ever allowing something this consumer (and third party
manufacturer) friendly though.  :-)
