Steering Oscillations

On the abstract side of things, here is what I find alarming:

"Good news! My car passed inspection and I have a [safety] sticker!

Bad news! On the way home, something in my front end started squeaking, 
there was a soft pop going around a curve, then my steering wheel 
started oscillating violently, so I limped home."

Please tell the world which shop failed to identify this imminent failure.

I realize not everything that can break necessarily shows signs just 
before it goes, but the timing couldn't be more hilarious.
