Brake Pad Wear Light

The Brake Pad Wear Light recently came on and stays on. Car is an Audi 100, 1990. The pads were changed less then 10 thousand miles ago and they look like they’ve got significant wear left.

Similarly the wires and plugs leading from the brakes are plugged and appear undamaged. Are there common failure points where these lose connectivity that would be easy to check before I take it to the mechanic?

Additional info: its definitely the brake pad wear light of the autocheck system, NOT the brake warning light that goes off if hydraulic or brake fluid is low.

Yesterday I was changing the A/C belt. In the process I started the car briefly without the Alternator belt installed. I expected to see the “battery” warning turn on, but instead, just saw the solid brake pad warning light as though that was the only warning signal that the autocheck was getting.

Thanks for any suggestions,

MC
