Audi 90 Quattro 1990 Rear Subframe Bushes

The G is a revision number. Any time there is a letter at the end of a VW part number it represents a revision to the part. Sometimes it's a small change that is still compatible, but other times it's a large enough change that other interfacing parts also have been changed. 

For instance let's say that 171 199 214 in practice was found to be too stiff and caused customer complaints of vibrations. VW would investigate then possibly determine that simply using a softer rubber during manufacturing of the same part would solve the issue. 171 199 214A would be produced as a direct replacement with softer rubber. Later they found that they can use the same bushing on a different car, but that car requires a larger bolt holding the subframe in. They would make the center hole larger and call it 171 199 214B. The B part would not be compatible with the previous cars. 

The only way to know about fitment is either via experience from people who have tried it, or looking it up in ETKA and seeing the details of the part such as what car it is listed for, is it a supercession to your part, is the subframe that it fits in the same part number as yours, etc.
