'08 TT: broken spring in slave cylinder

My shop says 17-20 hours to take apart the transmission to replace the
slave cylinder ($240 CAD), and we may as well confirm the clutch is OK
while in there.

Any pieces of advice? The broken spring sounds right - I heard/felt
something go on a shift, and the clutch has much more play before
engaging now, and the pedal doesn't always come back up on its own... I
have to hook my foot under it and help it back.

Only got this car in June... had a 30-day warranty (which took care of a
few things we found) but long past that.

Appreciate any advice/suggestions. I'm barely able to change oil
myself, so no DIY option here! :(
