At that rate while under there you can grab the lever I the side of the transmission with the cable disconnected and discern how hard it is to move. It should only have the tension of the detents and easily spring to the next selection.

If I run errands around town and make more than one stop and exceed 10 miles I have to leave the car in gear when I get home, shut the key off, and let it cool for a couple hours for it to return to normal. The transmission rebuilder says the the oil leaks (I plan to fix) are causing the electrical problems but to me it sure feels like a mechanical problem.Any experiences or ideas would be appreciated. The message about the 1972 100LS was interesting. My only new Audi in 44 years of Audis' was a green 1972 100LS.
