'91 CQ left front clunk over bumps & some turns

I just had new front struts, solid strut bearings/ mounts, control arm bushings and the lower ball joints installed on my '91 CQ. 

The car drives fine and straight. However, I get a clunk from the left front over certain bumps and less commonly when I turn the steering wheel. The shop that did the work checked out the car and states everything is nice and tight. 

They advised the rack and pinion is bad and needs replacement. 

Any thoughts?
