Hi everyone, Louis-Alain from, hummm, Montreal.

The white and green taxi you saw is probably the key. Teo Taxi was founded this year, all its fleet is electric (Leaf, Soul EV and Tesla), and I'm 99% sure the Soul has brand new winter tires, unstudded. Winter tires are mandatory here in Quebec, and since this car is its first year of operation, this must be new tires. Second observation : the Soul catched a sewer cover with its left front wheel, a cover that was warmer and grippier than the rest of the street. It must have help a bit to rotate the car and help in stopping it. Everyone should learn that lesson : always aim for the less slippery stuff...

Now, you must know that morning temperature was just around freezing point, snow was very wet, the street surface was just a bit below freezing, etc, etc, etc... I can go miles to explain what happened, but at the end, since Montreal was founded 374 years ago, I can't understand why this always happen each year... It was bad judgement (no salt or sand, really ?) combined with the fact that the city expenses are under heavy scrutiny following many years of corruption that were exposed by a 2 year long public inquiry.

Anyway, this should not happen. At least, there was not a single broken nail, and people around the world got a nice smile that morning.

You're welcome.

Louis-Alain

When you are sideways sliding down the hill, brakes don’t matter. I’ll say it’s tires - a hard, durable compound on the buses and big trucks; all weather on most of the cars; and snow tires, maybe studded, on the taxi that escaped it.
