The high idle is very likely due to unrepairable intake tract leaks.

My black car was drifting up over the years, and the grey one does the 
same thing, idling from about 900-1200 rpm depending on its mood. 
Doesn't affect operation at all.

I smoke tested it a year or two ago and it just came out all over the 
place - think things like worn throttle body butterfly shaft bushings. 
It also came out in the location of the big leak I was looking for ;)
