I have just replaced my hood lift support gas/spring struts again (2nd time
in 28 years). There are still a few source options out there. I settled on
a part made by Lesjöfors (sold by AutohausAZ) because my bit of due
diligence revealed that the core technological expertise of Lesjöfors is
springs. Theirs was not the most expensive part out there, nor the
cheapest. (Range $11 to $60, these were $22.)
The fit and finish were excellent. After replacing the left side, I was
able to remove my telescoping hood brace since the single new support strut
was strong enough to hold the hood by itself.
I found it on the AutohausAZ site by entering my car model specifics and
then choosing to search by part "category," followed by selecting "body and
trim" or similar and finally "hood lift support." I could not get there
with the Audi p/n or, later, even with the Lesjöfors p/n. (I generally find
the AutohausAZ web site a real pain in the butt, but they often have stuff.)
