Alternator Rebuild

Hi - the main post on the rally car alternator failed on the 4k rally car. Best I can tell, the nut got partially loose, which allowed the copper eyelet to vibrate and wear the metal to the point it was ¾ of the way through...my volt meter continued to show less and less charging.

This alternator was re-wound for additional amps by a gentleman - who's name escapes me (Aaron?)

In any case, I'm trying to get the rotating assembly out of the case, so that I can potentially replace the stud.

I have the case split, stator is loose - but I believe is held in by 3 wires soldered to the base plate.

I was expecting the assembly to pretty much drop out - is there a trick to getting it out? Am I just dealing with the lower bearing being corroded in place? Is it ok to add heat to the bottom of the case where the bearing sits? Is it ok to take a couple whacks at the rotating assembly through the voltmeter opening?

Thank you!

Vittorio -
