[s-cars] S4 Clear-coat question

My '93 S4 is tornado red (great color, but not very stealthy). I've noticed=
 a couple of things that make me question whether it's got a clear-coat ove=
r the color coat: the paint surface oxidizes quickly, and when I polish it =
before waxing I get a lot of tornado red on my polishing bonnet. (I use Meg=
uiar's products.) I think the car has the original factory paint since I do=
n't see any evidence that it's been repainted (I bought it when it came off=
 a 3-yr lease with 18k mi). On the other hand it's hard to believe that it =
wouldn't have been clear-coated at the factory. Anybody else have this expe=
rience, or know about whether it **should** have a factory clearcoat?
