There was a recall done years back, but Audi will not
cover it again. I have tried, and I know several others
have as well, but have not been successful in getting
Audi to cover the repairs for a second switch.
So, unless your car never went in for the original
recall, you are SOL.
I replaced the electrical half of ignition switch
myself. It's about $30. However, it isn't perfect as
it is difficult to turn sometimes and you have to be
careful not to force it. I'm wondering whether the
mechanical portion of the ignition switch, i.e. tumbler
half, may not also need replacement and may in fact be
what causes the electrical half to break.
