I am prolly 4 to 6 weeks away from even obtaining the windows ipod but, have
been following the urS Ipod, urS mp3 threads with great interest. This is
good dialogue:) and great info.
To recap issues as I seez them:
Ipod I believe is the player of choice due to its small size, reliability,
coolness, firewire connection = download speed, ease of use and ?? uhmmmm
has given voice the the urS Mac contingent:)

How should it be connected to the car stereo?
I believe that a good fm modulator will be easiest and provide very
acceptable sound for most of us.
And provide an EZ integration solution for ANY cars' radio. Simply plug into
earphone jack.
That said, (he, he) my only question on the modulator is the degree of stereo
separation vs hard wire.
My neighbor has an Ipod and I'm gonna get a modulator to perform a very
scientific "listen" test:)

How is power provided to the ipod?
Not totally sure how to do this one, but I suppose you could tap into the
wires for the ipod cigarette lighter adapter and hard wire to an ignition on
connection. Same as V1 perhaps.

Where to install yet another device with no dash real estate?
Engineering remains problematic here. Ideally I'd like to push a button and
have it slide out and pop up from the three slug buttons on the dash console.
"How you gonna do that?" I hear you say. Don't know, but I was thinking
that perhaps an old CD drive mechnism could provide a framework.
For a simpler manual mechanism, consider that the urS ashtray, sans ashtray
insert, is practically a perfect fit. Complete with a large hole in the
bottom to run wires through. You could put some velcro on the back of the
ipod and then stick on the 3 slugs when in use.
I've also considered mounting it on the SR panel and just pulling down for
use. But what to do with wires I cannot figure out. Plus I'd like it to be
hidden a bit better.

Other issues ? Anyone?
Stay tuned.
Cheers'
Bill M
