[s-cars] I have brakes !!!

Hi Tom;

The brakes should begin grabbing in the first 1" of pedal travel - mine do.
To have this happen, though, requires routine maintenance - every year I
remove all pads, clean up and lube the pad contact points on the pad
carriers, check & lube the caliper guide pins, free up and lube the e-brake
cams, and flush the brake fluid. Using the e-brake regularly keeps the rear
pad clearance set and the pedal high.
The Audi pads are prone to seizing in the calipers, the guide pins seize
up, and the e-brake cams seize up. Any or all of these problems can lead to
the excessive brake pedal travel commonly mentioned on the list.
In your case the old front pads were probably hung up in the carrier. The
spongy pedal indicates air in the system - try gravity bleeding or pressure
bleeding the system.

Hey guys,

I couldn't wait till the big brake upgrade I have planned for spring so I
threw a set of front pads in over the weekend. Guess what ? My pedal now
grabs right at the top !!! Really weird. I've driven quite a few stockers
and have heard through this list that it just isn't possible. It's a
little spongier and I hope it will still firm up a bit but, gone is the
feeling that the pedal is going all the way to the floor before anything
starts grabbing... cool.
