Yep, you have a good memory. The 235/45 series tire is just slightly taller
(by more than a half inch in diameter) than the 245/40 series tire. My
avant, with Eibachs and camber plates, had rubbing on the right wheel, inner
fender liner. It wasn't the width of the tire, but the height. The *top* of
the tire is rubbing, not the side.
Do some playing around with the tire size script at
http://powerdog.com/tiresize.cgi. You'll see what I mean. The 235/45 is the
tallest tire you'd consider putting on an S6...
Next time I do 17s, I'm going with a 245 or 255 40 series tire. Right now
I'm running 245/45 16s, on stock 16x8 wheels, on the street.
